Kylie Minogue reveals her unlikely friendship with Coldplay's Chris Martin

Kylie Minogue has revealed her unlikely friendship with Coldplay's Chris Martin.

The Australian pop legend, 55, described herself as a huge Coldplay fan and told how they have become close friends over their decades in the limelight.

Singer Chris, 47, recently gushed over Kylie in a sweet essay penned for TIME after she was named in the TIME100 list of the most influential people of 2024.

Responding to his tribute, Kylie told how there is a 'mutual respect' and 'love' between them as she gave an insight into their longtime friendship. 

'I was a Coldplay fan from, I mean Millennium. I may have worn out the CD,' Kylie told Us Weekly at the TIME 100 Gala. 'There's a mutual respect and admiration and friendship and love there.'

She added: 'I can't talk for him, but I'll say from me, that having decades now of a relationship with so many people, for some, it might be a fleeting relationship, some might've just come [to know] me [in] the last year, but it's all about connection and energy.'

Chris recently shared his admiration for Kylie in Time magazine as he celebrated her incredible achievement in being named among 2024's most influential people.

He told how the Neighbours actress turned pop star was one of the first people he ever met on TV, and said he had been a fan of hers for nearly 15 years before then.

'Kylie Minogue was one of the first people I ever met from TV. She was a pop star, and I had watched her in Neighbours every day for a decade,' he said. 

'So when she came to an early Coldplay show, I'd already been her fan for nearly 15 years.'

'Kylie creates a space where everyone is safe to be themselves. When I look at her I feel hope. She's proof there are humans who don't judge,' he gushed.

Kylie and Chris have joined each other on stage on a number of occasions over the years, including at Glastonbury festival in 2019.

Kylie brought him out as part of her special guest line-up and the pair sang a duet of her smash hit anthem Can't Get You Out of My Head.

Coldplay also brought Kylie out at their New Jersey concert in 2022 as they once again sang a rendition of her hugely popular track.

'We've grown up idolising a few amazing pop stars,' Chris gushed on stage at the time as he introduced Kylie to his fans.

'The day that this person came to see our show in the year 2000, we thought that someone had landed from Mars, because she had basically just come off the television, as far as we could tell.'

'We'd grown up loving her,' he added. 'And then she got better and better, and still keeps getting better and better.'
